About Us

Curves

Since the mid 1980’s opportunity and diversity has been a been key words and aims at Newhouse Farm.

Fom our initial focus on relief milking and tractor work at neighbouring farms the business quickly grew such that within 10 years we had tractors, diggers and 15 employees all working out of Newhouse Farm covering the local and an ever expanding area.

It was at this time that farm technology and techniques changed with immense speed. Grants were introduced to improve efficiency, environmental and animal welfare. Farms were encouraged via the grant schemes to construct farm tracks for cattle and slurry holding systems for the efficient use of manure. Again opportunity came knocking and work overseen by farm consultants and grant authorities was completed and enjoyed for many years.

It was whist doing this work that we got involved with domestic waste and septic tanks that were failing and so often running to farm ditches. We already had been working with the Environment Agency on farm schemes and so this was a natural progression for our business.

Domestically foul drain systems were starting to fail and the environment agency were rightly keen to get the problems addressed. Since the turn of the 1900’s brick and similar systems had been constructed some with clinker filter beds and others with several chambers, but all eventually running to a form of soak-away or ditch. Whilst for many years this had been acceptable, the later years had seen the introduction of washing machines, dishwashers and power showers. The chemicals and detergents that accompanied these devices simply overloaded the old systems and thus the development of the sewage treatment systems became more than an option.

In January 2020 new legislation was introduced which targeted septic tanks and the discharge of raw sewage. Meaning that it is an offence to discharge into ditches or watercourse. Soak-aways are permitted if compliant and accepted under the new legislation.

Today we concentrate on domestic sewage systems and not forgetting of course our roots with farm construction works. We work very closely with the authorities including the Environment Agency, Building Control and the local planning departments. This ensures that every scheme is installed to the standard required and accepted by the authorities, but most importantly satisfies the customer wishes and ensures a compliant and reliable system that will last a lifetime.
